Frequently Asked Questions

Hi there 👋 As Hatch parents ourselves, we had (have!) a lot of questions. We’ve tried to answer some of the most common questions here. If we don’t cover the questions you have, please ask us on Instagram, Facebook, or by email.

What’s the first day of school for the 2025/26 school year?

Thursday, August 14th, 2025. Yes, Thursday 😀

How do I know what class my child is in?

Class rosters will be posted in the Hatch Elementary School office window the day before school.

What’s the official Hatch Elementary School website?

https://hatch.cabrillo.k12.ca.us/

Where can I find the 2025/26 school calendar?

Hint: It’s the same as the Cabrillo Unified School District Calendar, which you can find here.

What’s time does school start and end?

We call this the Bell Schedule and it is the same as the 2024/25 school year Bell Schedule.

Are there PTO dues?

No, there are no dues. If you have a child attending Hatch Elementary School, you’re automatically part of the PTO.

How can I get in touch with the PTO?

The easiest way is to follow us on Instagram or Facebook.

How do I get in touch with the principal?

Jeff Clinton is formerly the principal of Cunha Intermediate School, and the new principal at Hatch. He believes in open communication and can be reached at clintonj@cabrillo.k12.ca.us or
(650) 638-8232.

What school supplies do I need to buy for my child?

Generally all your child needs is a backpack. Most school supplies are provided. Your child’s teacher may ask you to provide a few additional items.

Are free meals provided at Hatch?

California provides Universal Free Meals for all students. This means that each child can get a free breakfast and free lunch each day at school by only providing their full name or Student Id. However, submitting an application helps Hatch secure funding and plan. You can find out more about meal benefits and meal applications here.

Can I volunteer or be a chaperone at school or school events?

Yes! We need your involvement. The requirements are different depending on the type of volunteer work you do. The details can be found here and you can also ask the front desk at the Hatch office.

What is the Blue team and who is on it?

The Blue team is a group of employees who supervise and support Hatch students in many ways throughout the day. You’ll see them at drop off and pick ups guiding kids to class, as crossing guards to lead kids through the parking lot, at lunch and recess (in the lunchroom, the playgrounds, or the field), as well as in the classroom and around the school as needed. They have a lot of interaction with your kids and know them all by name! Please introduce yourself and get to know them too. Meet Lili, Aurora, Mayte, Iliana, Melissa, and Maria.

How do I drop off my child at school?

As you enter the school grounds, Blue team members will be supervising traffic at the cross walks and dropoff points. If you bike, there is a gated bike area at the north end of the classrooms. If you drive, please follow the directions of the Blue team members, who will guide you around the circular parking lot. As you make your way to the front of the school, you will see a coned-off lane. Please wait patiently in the lane until you get to the front of the line—don’t drop off your child until you reach the front. Please do not park your cars in any of the parking spots for teacher and staff or leave your car unattended in the red zones.
